River Market 2013
The Downtown RiverMarket is back just in time for Spring. The market will kick-off April 6th with “Lawn and Garden Month”, and be open every Saturday from 10AM – 4PM till July 6th. Join us for local artisans, workshops, entertainment, produce, activities, and gifts. River Market will then close through the rest of July and August, before re-opening September 7th and running until December 14th. Interns Incoming!
River Market has selected three ULM seniors to work as interns during the 2013 Spring semester: Jonathan Bell, Judson Edwards, and Marshall Shannon.

Jonathan Kerry Bell: Jonathan is a 23 year old senior communications student from Shreveport, LA. A member of the Kappa Kappa Si National Honorary Music Fraternity, he enjoys music, video games, football, and basketball. Jonathan is excited to join River Market, saying “hard work never goes unnoticed”. After finishing the internship and graduating from ULM, Jonathan hopes to do marketing or promoting for a record company.

Judson Hugh Edwards: Judson is a 22 year old senior mass communications student from Oxford, AL. “Jud” is a member of the ULM baseball team and has previously been named an All-American as well as Academic All-conference, All-Sun Belt tournament team, Baton Rouge Tournament team, and is a 3 year member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee. When asked about the internship he said, “The chance to work with seasoned professionals in the public relations and marketing fields is invaluable experience that will help me throughout the rest of my life”. After graduation Judson hopes to attend law school at UA (Alabama), pass the bar exam, and begin practicing within four years.

Marshall Edmund Shannon: Marshall is a 24 year old senior communications student from Rochester, NY. In the fall of 2011 Marshall represented ULM in public debate, he enjoys writing and watching sports, and spending time at home with his girlfriend, two dogs and cat. Marshall looks forward to working within the communications for the first time, after years of serving tables. After finishing the internship and graduating in May he hopes to find work as a sports columnist or radio host.

Downtown Monroe Virtual Tour
There will be a virtual tour of downtown Monroe held on March 18th 2013, from 11:30AM – 12:30PM. The tour will take place at the Warehouse No.1 restaurant, where all who attend will also be welcome to lunch. Tour sites include Fort Mito, Oachita High, Garrett’s Law Office, Hotel Monroe, The Palace, and many more. Anyone interested must make their reservation (including $15 for lunch) by Friday March 13th at noon. Welcome to Downtown Monroe!
Bacco Italian Grille: Downtown Monroe is happy to welcome Bacco Italian Grille to it’s list of high quality dining experiences. Bacco is located on 300 Washington street and open from 11AM-2PM/4PM-11PM Monday through Friday, as well as 5PM-11PM on Saturday. Head chef Chad Matrana was an apprentice in Florence, Italy and has used that experience to fill Bacco’s menu with classic Italian cuisine like tuscan pastas, roma pizzas, and mediterranean wraps. Rain the Salon: Rain the Salon is a “state of the art” salon and day spa located in the heart of downtown Monroe, at 407 Desiard street. Founded by James and Holly McCready, Rain is a full service Paul Mitchell focus salon and Dermalogica day spa. Already well established and revered in Duluth, GA, James describes the Monroe spa as his “dream location”. The salon features 21’ domed ceilings, brick walls, a luxurious spa, and outdoor courtyard. Rain’s services include everything from children’s haircuts to bridal/theatrical styling, waxing, makeup, hot-stone spa treatments, private spa pedicures/manicures, facials, and much more. River and Rail Cantina: River and Rail Cantina is a brand new Tex-Mex restaurant that looks to change how Monroe gets it’s “R&R”. The restaurant will be opening for dinner only, March 15th and 16th at 201 Walnut street. After opening weekend expect the fajitas to be sizzling from 11AM-9PM Sunday through Wednesday, and 11AM-10PM Thursday through Saturday. The century old building features a covered deck and open patio that overlook the Oachita River and Desiard Street Bridge, and the bar inside features a window so you can continue viewing while you grab a drink. Expect all your Tex-Mex favorites along with steaks, grilled chicken, fish, and delicious burgers.

Green Star Realty: Green Star is a realty company originally based in West Monroe, that is centered on taking great care of their agents, who take great care of their customers. Christmas RiverMarket/Downtown River Jam
December 1st was an exciting day downtown, with the market buzzing from 9AM-7PM full of holiday shoppers and vendors. Things got “wrapped up” at River Market with a sparkling fireworks display over the Oauchita River. The fun continued downtown with a dueling piano performance from Kirk Garrett and Troy Baldwin at the historic Austin’s Building. The journeyman pianists gave the crowd a terrific show.

Downtown Gallery Crawl
Explore the many art galleries calling Monroe their home. Hosted by the Downtown Arts Alliance, the crawl takes you on a trip to see the finest art the City has to offer, not to mention a sampling of it’s food and music. Here is a schedule of upcoming dates: June 6th, August 1st, October 3rd, and December 5th. All dates are on a Thursday and run from 5-9PM.
